Heartland Radon is a full-service radon testing and mitigation company that believes in delivering a highly effective product at a fair price, in addition to treating all of our clients just like we like to be treated ourselves.

Radon is our country's second leading cause of lung
cancer, behind smoking. NOTE: The American Lung
Association estimates that up to 25,000 fatalities
in the U.S. are attributed to exposure to Radon

The only way to determine if your home
has elevated radon levels is to conduct a radon test.

Radon is the only naturally occurring radioactive
element that is a gas. The term is used to refer
specifically to the isotope Radon 222, the primary
isotope present inside homes. Radon 222 is directly
created by the decay of radium 226, and has a half
life of 3.82 days. What does this mean to a
homeowner? Radiocative gases could be entering
your home, usually entering through the basement
floor or walls and rising into the home.

Current EPA guidelines recommend that remedial
action be considered when radon concentrations
inside of a home exceed an annual average of 4
picoCuries of radon per liter of air (4 pCi/L)

Since by some estimates, 12 percent of U.S. homes might have radon concentrations exceeding this guideline, the EPA recommends that everyone test their home. There are currently a number of acceptable diagnostic tests and testing organizations available.

Radon can be reduced to within EPA guidelines by using different methods and by implementing various techniques. These methods depend on the desired convenience and appearance of the installed system, the desired confidence in the system performance, and the design and construction features of the home. These will all have a bearing upon selection and design of the reduction method. A professional mitigation firm, who provides competent services at a reasonable cost, understands the homeowners' comfort needs and provides a guarantee upon completion should perform mitigation.
